Oil Painting ‘Down To The Start’ by Alexander Charles-Jones
Celebrated contemporary sporting artist Alexander Charles-Jones has horse racing in his blood, having ridden two winners to victory in famous horse races at Aintree and Cheltenham.
Charles-Jones was inspired as a boy by one of the leading and most admired sporting painters of the C20th, Raoul Millais (1901-1999). In later life, he went on to be mentored by Millais, who encouraged and nurtured Charles-Jones as he showed signs of great promise.
Charles-Jones displays an extraordinary talent to convey the beauty and muscle of the horse and the sense of expectation and excitement of the races, perfectly demonstrated here in this beautifully framed, signed oil dating back to the turn of the century.
